Berlin Airport Accessibility

Construction of the brand-new Berlin Brandenburg (BER) Airport was delayed by nearly a decade, but this modern terminal was worth the wait.

The City of Berlin was previously served by the now closed Tegel and Schönefeld, but all traffic is now based at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). The airport's modern terminal design is wheelchair-friendly, and it has become one of my favorite airports in Europe.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport is wheelchair accessible, with airport staff trained in assisting those using both manual and powered chairs. All wheelchairs can be taken to the gate and to the aircraft door. If your airline check-in or gate agent says otherwise, be firm in your insistence that you be permitted to turn over/receive your wheelchair at the gate. Loaner wheelchairs are also available if you would like to check your wheelchair during the check-in process.

to the disabled and persons in wheelchairs. Information on wheelchair accessible airport assistance and service accommodations is provided below. Although there are no adapted taxis in Berlin, both airports offer multiple public transportation options that are accessible.

  • Express Buses: X7, X71, BER2
  • Long-distance: IC
  • City Buses: 163, 164, 171, 263, 745, 744

Airport Express (FEX) and regional trains run several times an hour between Berlin Central Station and station "Flughafen BER" (BER Airport). The S9 and S45 commuter trains (S-Bahn) run every 20 minutes to Berlin city centre. Furthermore, an Intercity BER T1-2 connects Rostock and Dresden/Chemnitz several times a day.
