Approximately 10% of taxi cabs in Brussels are wheelchair accessible. These vehicles are equipped with rear-entry ramps that can be folded out and allow a wheelchair to easily roll in and out of the vehicle. This allows the passenger to remain seated in their wheelchair for the entire journey. Each Brussels wheelchair taxi has a securement space and safety tie-downs/straps to accommodate one manual or powered wheelchair.
These specialized taxis can be ordered on demand at all hours, though wait times will be higher late at night and early in the morning. For users of manual or collapsible wheelchairs, standard taxis are available if the passenger is able to transfer from his/her wheelchair into the vehicle. English-speaking drivers may be requested, though the majority of drivers speak French and/or Dutch. City-approved meter rates are applicable to both standard taxis and wheelchair accessible ones. *The per-kilometer fare of €1,80 is for travel inside the City of Brussels. For travel outside the city, the per-kilometer rate is €2,70, regardless of the time of day. All other fare components, including pick-up cost and waiting time, remain the same.
