Although wheelchair accessible public transportation is available in Fort Myers, the convenience of a taxi is helpful in accessing attractions outside of the public transit service area. Having your own car or taking a taxi saves time and makes for a more enjoyable trip.

As is the case in much of Florida, wheelchair taxi service is limited in Fort Myers. Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft do not provide accessible services in the Sunshine State.

Non-emergency medical transportation provider in Fort Myers
During my press trip to Fort Myers, The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel (the local tourism bureau) arranged a vehicle and driver through Bluebird Mobility, a non-emergency medical transportation provider that is also owned by Southwest Florida Transportation Group.

The company operates a variety of vehicles with side-entry wheelchair ramps, including the purpose-built MV-1 which offers superior comfort and space for wheelchair users. The drivers were friendly and competent, and I always felt safe riding with Bluebird.
