Trip Itinerary

I have crafted this engaging accessible trip itinerary while bringing together a variety of local and regional partners, experts in accessible tourism who have the knowledge, equipment and staff to ensure that our needs are met.

The benefit of this accessible group tour to Switzerland is that it opens the country up in a way that would be very difficult or cost-prohibitive to accomplish on a solo trip — through this group tour, we are able to account for everyone’s needs by preparing the way for wheelchair users and travelers with disabilities, while offering a truly memorable experience at an affordable price. There is truly no better way to explore Switzerland with a wheelchair!

Day 1 (September 6, 2026): Arrival in Switzerland

Thun, Switzerland

Myself and our driver will be waiting for you at the Zurich Airport (ZRH), and you will be transported in a wheelchair accessible vehicle to our hotel in Interlaken (or Thun — see the below note) for check-in. The drive from the Zurich Airport to Interlaken (or Thun) is approximately two hours.

🛏️
Due to the limited number of accessible hotel rooms in Interlaken, two additional rooms have been contracted in the nearby City of Thun. Travelers assigned to those rooms will not miss out on any group activities, and will enjoy views from one of Switzerland's most beautifully-located hotels.

Take the afternoon to rest or explore the local area on your own, before meeting the group for a tour orientation and welcome dinner at a local restaurant. We will describe the tour itinerary in detail, and I will be available to answer any questions you have.

Included meals: Dinner

Day 2 (September 7, 2026): Lauterbrunnen Valley

Enjoy a relaxed day trip to the stunning Lauterbrunnen Valley. We will travel by train in one direction, and in our wheelchair accessible bus on the return.

After arriving in the valley, we will begin by visiting the famous waterfalls and taking a leisurely walk through the village. Afterwards, we continue to Stechelberg, where we board the cable car up to the mountain resort of Mürren. Enjoy a gentle stroll through the village and take in the spectacular alpine scenery.

After approximately one hour, including a short, easy and wheelchair accessible train ride, we arrive at Grütschalp. This is an ideal lunch stop, featuring a lovely terrace with panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau (Ogre, Monk and Maiden), three iconic peaks in the Swiss Alps. Enjoy a sandwich or lunch at the small cafe.

Later, a short cable car ride brings us back down to Lauterbrunnen railway station. From there, we will return to Interlaken.

Included meals: Breakfast

Day 3 (September 8, 2026): Bern, Switzerland

The journey to Bern, the de facto capital city of Switzerland, takes approximately one hour by both train and vehicle. We will travel by train in one direction, and in our wheelchair accessible bus on the return.

After arriving in Bern, we will meet our guide at the Federal Parliament Building. The guide will lead us on a walking tour of the city. Highlights include the UNESCO-listed Old Town with its famous Clock Tower (Zytglogge), the Federal Parliament Building, the Bear Park, the River Aare, and shopping beneath the historic arcades.

At lunchtime, you are free to choose a restaurant of your preference or enjoy a light snack nearby. Alternatively, take advantage of the beautiful terrace behind the Parliament Building for a relaxed picnic with a view.

In the afternoon, we regroup and return before the evening rush hour, arriving back to our hotel by approximately 4:00 pm.

Day 4 (September 9, 2026): GoldenPass Panoramic Train & Fondue Lunch in a Mountain Village

Today, we will travel aboard the scenic GoldenPass panoramic train to the charming mountain village of Château-d’Oex, beautifully set in a wide alpine valley surrounded by rolling hills and traditional chalets. Known for its strong cheese-making traditions and authentic alpine character, Château-d’Oex offers a warm and welcoming glimpse into Swiss mountain life.

Upon arrival, enjoy time to explore the village at a relaxed pace, stroll through the center, and visit a local craft (paper cutting) or hot air balloon museum to learn more about regional traditions. A highlight of the day is a traditional fondue lunch in a cozy chalet-style restaurant, where you will also gain insights into the art of Swiss cheese making. You can participate yourself by stirring the cheese in the big copper cauldron.
