Located on Omonoia Square in the heart of Athens, Greece, the Moxy Athens City Hotel is part of Marriott, and it offers a modern, chic accommodation that attracts travelers both young and old. While the Moxy brand is characterized by many as being "no-frills," I have found the brand offers reliable accessible accommodation at an affordable price — this proved true during my stay at the Moxy Athens City location.
Room Rates & Reservations
The cost of a hotel room at the Moxy Athens City is largely tied to seasonality, with of about 100 EUR (sometimes less) during the winter to more than 225 EUR per night during the summer tourist season. The hotel is popular among tourists, and rates naturally increase during periods of high occupancy. Travelers are encouraged to book early to take advantage of the lowest rates at this wheelchair accessible hotel.
Room reservations for wheelchair accessible hotel rooms can be made via the Moxy Athens City hotel website.
Wheelchair Accessible Hotel Room at Moxy Athens City
My “Backstage, Guest room, 2 Twin, Limited view” room was a standard room type (available at the lowest cost). While the room was small, I was able to navigate it with my power wheelchair. It had minimal design touches, though there was accent lighting on the primary wall and underneath the beds. The sixth-floor guest room (number 620) featured a large window that invited natural light into the space.

The bed was firm but comfortable. The space between the two beds was narrow, but I was able to access each bed on the outermost sides (left bed on the left; right bed on the right). The bed height was 26.5 inches measured from the floor to the top of the mattress. Each mattress sat atop a boxspring of 9 inches and a platform base of 9 inches. There was no clearance underneath.

Lighting controls, power outlets and USB ports were found directly alongside the bed and above the nightstand. The bedside power outlet allowed me to easily charge my wheelchair and other electronics. Note that electricity in Greece is delivered at 230 volts. Travelers from the U.S. and North America may need to use a step-down power transformer to charge wheelchairs that use the 120V standard. Please see the guide to charging a power wheelchair abroad for more information and tips. My wheelchair has a dual-voltage charger, so I plugged right into the wall (with a universal plug adapter) and charged without issue.
On the wall opposite the bed was a wall-mounted television. The room did not have a closet, however there were hanging racks next to the bed and at the main entry door. A full length mirror was provided in the foyer area.

Wheelchair Accessible Bathroom with Roll-in Shower at Moxy Athens City
The bathroom was clean and practical in design, though there were a couple of opportunities for improvement.

The bathroom featured a roll under sink with an easy-to-operate faucet. The sink measured 33 inches high, with 30.5 inches of clearance below. The angled mirror above the sink was welcome.
A nearby toilet, pictured above and measuring 16.5 inches from floor to seat, had a single folding grab bar that was 27 inches tall when in use. There was space to park my wheelchair directly alongside the toilet for a safe lateral transfer. Unfortunately, the folding grab bar was placed on the side of the toilet from which transfers were made, which meant there was no true grab bar to aid in transfers. I made it work, but a folding grab bar placed on the opposite side of the toilet would improve safety and accessibility.

The roll-in shower was small, but very thoughtfully designed and easy to use. It featured a seat that folded down from the wall; it measured 21.5 inches tall. A handheld shower head and water controls were within reach of the wall-mounted seat, and grab bars were placed on the adjacent wall at a height of 28.5 inches (a bit low given the higher-height seat). Wall-mounted soap, shampoo and conditioner dispensers were within reach.
Location & Transportation
The Moxy Athens City hotel is located on Omonoia Square, and the Omonia Metro Station is directly across the street. The station is served by both Metro lines — M1 and M2 — which makes this hotel one of the most convenient places to stay for travelers interested in exploring the city using public transportation.
Both Metro lines, M1 and M2, connect to line M3 which serves the Athens International Airport. All stations on the Athens Metro are wheelchair accessible with elevators and level boarding.
Final Thoughts
The Moxy Athens City boasts a high level of guest room accessibility and a location that is convenient to wheelchair accessible public transportation. The competitive price point makes this hotel extremely attractive, particularly when room rates in central Athens are elevated during the high tourist season.
