Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is the second busiest airport in Pennsylvania and a former hub for US Airways. Over the past decade, the airport has seen incremental growth, with passenger traffic nearing 9 million in 2017. This growth has been partly fueled by low-cost carriers like Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines. The airport consists of a single airside terminal with four concourses (A, B, C and D) that are accessed via an automated people mover.

For domestic flights, it is recommended that passengers with disabilities check-in two hours prior to departure. For international flights, please arrive three hours prior to departure.
Special Assistance Services & Accessibility at Pittsburgh Airport
Disability assistance services should be requested prior to travel and through your airline. Consult this list of wheelchair assistance contacts at major airlines. If you are traveling with a personal wheelchair, it is possible to gate-check the device, whether it is manual or powered.
Each of the airport’s bathrooms are wheelchair accessible and outfitted with ADA compliant stalls for wheelchair users and people with disabilities. A private companion care restroom is on concourses C and D. The private bathrooms are designed for use by wheelchair users and their attendants.
Travelers can find a service animal relief area in airside Concourse D near the Post Office.

Accessible transportation to/from Pittsburgh Airport
Getting to and from the Pittsburgh Airport is easy, with a number of accessible transportation options to choose from.
The most affordable option is public transit, with the 28X “Airport Flyer” city bus route being wheelchair accessible. The 28X bus makes stops at Robinson Town Centre, Downtown Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Carnegie Mellon University and other stops in between. The Airport Flyer picks up travelers outside Door 6 of baggage claim. City bus tickets are $2.50 and can be purchased at the airport or on the bus.
SuperShuttle also offers wheelchair accessible transportation from the Pittsburgh Airport to hotels and other locations in the city. I’ve detailed my experience riding SuperShuttle as a wheelchair user in this blog post, and it is a great way to save money over a standard cab fare.
Wheelchair accessible taxis can be requested from the airport’s taxi stand. Taxi stands are located outside of baggage claim.
