Whenever I see a ramp, curb cut, swimming pool lift, power assist door or any other of the myriad accessibility features that make the world more accessible to me, I try to think about the people who made that possible — the advocates, innovators, civil servants and laborers who were involved in bringing that accessibility feature from an idea to a reality — a reality on this block, in that hotel, in my city or in yours. It truly is amazing how far we have come!
Obviously, there is still so much more to do. Accessibility must still be prioritized in every community and in every industry, including the travel industry!
I was honored and humbled to be mentioned in Condé Nast Traveller's recent article, Beyond Barriers: 25 people making the world more accessible for 2025. It's wonderful to be mentioned alongside so many other advocates, and to see a publication make space for this list — mass market travel magazines and websites don't often cover the disability community.
It's nice to be recognized, and this small but meaningful acknowledgement will serve as a push forward, fuel for my continued advocacy. Thank you for being a part of this community and my journey. Here's to a more accessible world! 🥂
