Welcome to the New Wheelchair Travel Newsletter

An important update about the Wheelchair Travel website and newsletter, and details about your subscription.

Hello, travelers!

Today, I am excited to introduce you to a dramatically transformed WheelchairTravel.org — it's the first big update in nearly five years, and right on the heels of the site's 10th birthday. The first thing you will notice are the fresh design changes, but this update is much more than a facelift.

What you should know about the big update

The website, formerly powered by WordPress, and the newsletter, formerly hosted by Substack, have been integrated on the open source software platform Ghost. For the first time ever, the WheelchairTravel.org website and Wheelchair Travel Newsletter are one — you'll no longer need to visit two websites to access accessible travel content, the newsletter archive, or to manage your subscription.

Here are a few things you should know about the change:

  • All subscribers, both free and paid, have been moved from Substack to the new WheelchairTravel.org website. Although the Substack page will remain online for a few more days for technical reasons, your subscription can now be managed right here, on WheelchairTravel.org.
  • To update your subscription, change your email address, or perform other tasks related to your Wheelchair Travel membership, you can login to the WheelchairTravel.org website. If you need support with your subscription, please contact subscriber-support@wheelchairtravel.org.
  • If you were one of the subscribers using the Substack mobile application to read this newsletter, that functionality will no longer be supported. You can access an RSS feed to use with a mobile reader of your choice at https://wheelchairtravel.org/rss/.
  • All newsletters and emails will now be sent from wheelchairtravel@ghost.io — Please add this address to your trusted senders list.
  • Founding Members may notice their membership level listed as "Member" rather than "Founding Member" — Rest assured, you still show as a Founding Member on my end, and I am working with a team of technical experts to reflect your valued membership appropriately on the front end. I hope to provide an update next week.

There is also a new bonus perk for paid subscribers: Beginning today, all paid subscribers who are logged-in at WheelchairTravel.org will see a significant reduction in advertisements. Be sure to login to take advantage of this benefit!

WheelchairTravel.org is a large website with more than 1,000 pages and millions of words — I anticipate that there will be some teething issues as I get used to this new software platform. If you encounter any issues that require my attention, please reach out to subscriber-support@wheelchairtravel.org.

Looking ahead

Mailings of the Wheelchair Travel Newsletter have been on a short pause while I worked to complete this integration. Regular newsletters will resume next week.

On Tuesday, February 25, the itinerary for the next Wheelchair Travel Group Trip to Barcelona, Spain will be announced! The grand adventure will take place from September 9 to 18, 2025. Paid subscribers will receive the first opportunity to reserve a spot. If you are not yet a paid subscriber, you can get early access by upgrading your subscription.

Have a great weekend and Thank You for your support!

All the best,
— John Morris
